UNUM Provident Claims to Be Reviewed:
California Disability Insurance
Attorneys
Provide Expert Help
If
you had or have a disability claim against California UNUM Provident and
your benefits were denied or stopped any time between January 1, 1997 and
the present, we can help you.
The California Department of Insurance
recently fined Unum Provident $8 million dollars
and ordered it to reopen 26,000 California disability
cases whose benefits were terminated since January 1,
1997. Unum Provident knowingly applied the wrong definition
of "total disability" in
claim handling; it inappropriately used
independent medical exams and other medical information
to the company's own advantage and mischaracterized certain
occupations as sedentary when they were not.
On October 3 of this year, California Insurance Commissioner
John Garamendi publicly stated, "Unum
Provident is an outlaw company. It is a company that
has operated in an illegal fashion. . . . What we're
saying to any company operating in this area of insurance
is it has to stop screwing its customers."
Unum Provident has agreed to pay the 8 million dollars
fine and to reopen claims that were denied benefits between
January 1, 1997 and September 30, 2005.
How We Can Help with Unum Provident Disability
Claims
If your Unum Provident claim
is one of those that is going to be reviewed, we can
help you. We specialize in handling ERISA and California
long-term disability claims that have been denied, and
have had many successes against Unum Provident in particular.
When you retain us, the San Diego law firm of Stennett
Casino, we will expertly evaluate your Unum Provident
claim. We'll determine the documentation and evidence
needed to help avoid or rebut common grounds for claim
denial: insufficient proof of your job requirements,
your medical condition, or how your medical condition
prevents your job performance. We'll work with your doctors,
employer, co-workers, and any outside specialists (such
as medical or rehabilitation experts) to obtain the necessary
evidence and documentation. We'll conduct investigations
and interviews where useful, obtain any studies and reports
that support your claim, and review, organize, and summarize
every item in your file before Unum Provident reviews
it. We will also present the legal arguments needed to
support your claim on review.
A simple phone call to Stennett Casino often can start
you on the correct path toward obtaining your Unum Provident
benefits. Your initial phone consultation is free. Although
the result in each case depends on its unique facts and
law, we've had many successes in obtaining disability
benefits for our clients from this "outlaw" insurance
company. We are standing by now to help clients throughout
California whose disability claims will be reviewed by
Unum Provident.
